Dr. Gary Ang, Founder & Principal, Quaintitative
Quaintitative is a vanguard and industry leader in AI risk and governance.
Gary is an AI risk and governance leader who brings a combination of regulatory experience, technical depth, and applied research expertise to Dignitea. Gary led the development of supervisory frameworks for responsible AI and AI risk management at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). One of the first pieces of work he embarked on was to synthesise his past experience in model risk management with his background in AI to deliver the Information Paper on AI Model Risk Management in banks at the end of 2024. He developed Singapore’s first AI Risk Management Guidelines (AIRG) for the financial sector in 2025, and was part of the Singapore Accreditation Council’s Working Group for the accreditation programme for ISO 42001.
Prior to this role, Gary was division head of the investment risk management division at MAS, overseeing a division to manage the risks of Singapore’s multi-billion dollar foreign reserves. He was responsible for a wide range of areas – from working with portfolio managers on asset allocations, to risk limits, in-house risk systems, and managing external fund managers.
Earlier in his career, Gary spent many years developing Basel II to Basel III rules for banks and equivalent capital market regulations, as well as auditing quantitative models in banks and exchanges – spanning credit scoring, market pricing and risk models, and margin models.
He now runs Quaintitative, an independent practice covering AI training, advisory, and research, with a core focus on AI governance and risk management in financial services. Current and upcoming engagements include MAS, the Association of Banks in Singapore, the Wealth Management Institute, the Singapore College of Insurance, and the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, where he is module lead for an AI programme for global regulators. He is affiliate faculty at SMU Academy, incoming adjunct faculty at SMU’s Master of IT in Business programme, a pro bono advisor to the Institute of Banking & Finance (IBF), a member of Rutgers Business School’s Master of Quantitative Finance Advisory Board, and a co-author of a recently published paper on agentic AI model risk management. He is a LinkedIn Top Voice in AI governance.
Gary holds a PhD in Computer Science from Singapore Management University. His research focused on deep learning models for networks, time series, and multimodal data, with applications in human-computer interaction and finance. His work has been accepted at venues including ACL and ACM Transactions on the Web, and received an honourable mention at the ACM Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces. He received the SMU Presidential Doctoral Fellowship and completed his PhD on an MAS scholarship. He also holds Masters degrees in Financial Engineering and Knowledge Engineering from NUS, and an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Toronto.
