Koo Ping Shung, Lead AI Consultant & Trainer

Koo Ping Shung is a community leader in AI and Data, trainer and mentor.

Koo Ping Shung serves as a lead AI consultant and trainer, bringing 20 years of relevant experience and an MBA to his role. He is currently a Principal Consultant and Trainer at Data Science Rex and holds several prominent academic positions, including Affiliate Faculty with SMU Academy, Instructor at the Civil Service College Singapore, and Chairman of the Program Advisory Committee for the Mathematics Degree Program at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). His background is rooted in the banking industry, where he specialised in Credit Risk Analytics at DBS and OCBC, gaining critical insights into how data, IT infrastructure, and regulations intersect with analytics.

As an educator, Ping Shung was a guest lecturer at NUS-ISS before and previously was an Adjunct at SCALE, NUS. He also held an adjunct position in School of Information Systems, (SUSS) and ESSEC Singapore. He is a trainer who has conducted over 2,000 man-hours of training for numerous professionals and graduates. His pedagogical expertise spans a wide range of technical topics, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Visualization. Beyond the classroom, he has served as a mentor for more than 10 intakes of the IMDA-SAS BIA Programme and has extensive experience managing industrial relationships and supervising capstone projects involving machine learning

Ping Shung is deeply involved in the AI community, having co-founded DataScience.Sg, former Working Committee Chairman of SAS User Group Singapore, Data Ambassador to DataKind SG first project. He was the President of AI Professionals Association, a
grass-root driven association that aims to help businesses to use AI with confidence. He co-developed their Professional Certification Programme, Chartered AI Engineer, to upskill professionals and help businesses implement AI with confidence.

His current research interests focus on building in-house data science capabilities, Artificial General Intelligence, and Trustable AI, and he is a recognised speaker who has presented at international events such as GITEX 2023 in Dubai. He also contributed his views and opinions to newspapers such as CIO SEA and Digital First.

Ping Shung holds an MBA from University of Adelaide. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Economics from National University of Singapore, with a minor in Computational Finance.
